RENOWNED celebrity chef Martin Yan brought his signature energy and culinary expertise to SEGi College Penang, inspiring young talents and culinary enthusiasts alike.

The event, titled “A Masterclass with Chef Martin Yan,” drew students, parents, and culinary enthusiasts for a live session with the internationally acclaimed chef.

Organised by SEGi College Penang, the programme was designed to bridge academic learning with real-world industry experience, offering students an immersive and inspiring opportunity.

State Social Development, Non-Religious and Welfare Committee chairman Lim Siew Khim, who officiated the event, praised the college for its forward-thinking initiative.

“This event is more than just a showcase of culinary skill; it is a reflection of what education should be — immersive, inspiring, and connected to the world beyond the classroom,” said Lim in her speech.

Lim emphasised the importance of vocational exposure for youth, particularly SPM school leavers, to explore career opportunities in the food and hospitality industries.

“It helps individual growth and also contributes to the broader economy,” she said.

Lim also expressed appreciation to the college for creating platforms that blend education with industry relevance and cultural appreciation.

She encouraged students to be bold, stay curious, and embrace every opportunity to learn from industry masters like Chef Yan.

Chef Yan, best known for his long-running television show “Yan Can Cook,” captivated the audience with live cooking demonstrations and shared rich insights from his decades-long career. His presence was lauded as a testament to SEGi’s commitment to providing students with global perspectives in education.

In his inspiring address, Chef Yan urged students to be courageous, take risks, and always strive to give their best. He recounted his journey in the culinary world, highlighting how perseverance played a key role in shaping his success.
