Chen Xi & Japanese Fiancée Hold Low-Key Wedding Ceremony In A Peranakan Shophouse

While some couples enjoy throwing extravagant banquets to celebrate their big day, some prefer to be as low-key as possible.

Yesterday, ex-Mediacorp actor Chen Xi shared on Instagram that he has married his Japanese fiancée Mimi. In a previous interview with 8days.sg, Chen Xi said Mimi works in IT, and is “slightly younger” than he is.

"We decided not [to have] a full-blown wedding ceremony in Singapore, but a small and heartfelt solemnisation with our closest family," wrote the 34-year-old in his caption.

Choosing to keep things "simple, sincere, and true to [who they are]", the couple held their tea ceremony in a Peranakan shophouse in Bendemeer. "[It] reflects a small dream Mimi and I share for the future," added Chen Xi.

The actor also shared a few photos of him and his bride Mimi, together with their families, marking the first time Mimi's face is revealed to the public.

It goes without saying that Chen Xi's parents — Xiang Yun and Edmund Chen — are over the moon.

Edmund posted about the big day on his socials even before the groom himself.

In an Instagram Story, Chen Xi and Mimi were serving tea to Edmund and Xiang Yun, the latter could be heard saying: "Mum wishes you utmost happiness and eternal love".

Chen Xi later revealed in his post that Mimi's family flew in from Japan to attend the ceremony. The actor previously shared that they plan to hold another wedding in a temple in Kyushu, where Mimi is from.

When 8days.sg spoke to Chen Xi about his engagement last year, he told us that he and Mimi got to know each other through an online language-exchange app in 2020.

They met when Chen Xi was still in Singapore and before he moved to the UK to study arts management in 2023. At that time, Chen Xi thought things wouldn't work out after he moves abroad.

Mimi managed to get a visa to work in England and was able to find a job in the UK thanks to the remote nature of her work. She then moved there with Chen XI, where their relationship blossomed.

Last May, he proposed to her when they were visiting a 17th-century manor in Northern England. They moved back to Singapore in March this year.
