Chinese EV makers resilient despite tariffs, challenges

China’s electric vehicle (EV) sector has shown growth despite challenges from a stagnant domestic economy and tariffs in the United States and European Union.
Companies such as Xiaomi, Geely, Nio, and Xpeng reported increased vehicle deliveries in 2024.
This coincided with a 46% rise in the country’s EV exports at the beginning of 2025, according to Macquarie.
Geely and Xpeng reported significant growth milestones as well.
Nio experienced a 45% increase in sales volumes. Yet, it faces challenges from ongoing price competition at home and potential impacts from US and EU tariffs.
