Chinese chipmaker YMTC tops Kioxia in NAND shipments: report
Tech in Asia·2026-08-13 20:00
Wuhan-based Yangtze Memory Technologies Co. (YMTC), a Chinese memory chipmaker, shipped more NAND flash than Japan’s Kioxia Holdings Corp. in the June quarter, Counterpoint Research said.
The shift suggests that AI-driven demand and tighter supply are benefiting lower-cost suppliers.
Despite being added to the US Entity List in December 2022, with export licenses for items subject to the Export Administration Regulations generally reviewed with a presumption of denial, YMTC has filed for an initial public offering planned for Shanghai’s STAR Market.
Counterpoint said YMTC still ranked fifth by sales, behind Micron Technology and Kioxia.
This indicated that higher shipment volume had not yet translated into revenue.
Enterprise solid-state drives (SSDs) made up nearly half of NAND bit shipments, up from 26% a year earlier.
At the same time, Samsung Electronics and SK hynix prioritised advanced dynamic random-access memory (DRAM), such as high-bandwidth memory (HBM), for AI systems.
