KUCHING: The Anglican Church of Kuching is proposing to hold Good Friday celebrations in cyberspace instead of a gathering in church and will postpone Easter celebration to another date after the movement control order (MCO) ends on April 14. Good Friday falls on April 10 and Easter on April 12. The Bishop of the Kuching Anglican Church (Sarawak and Brunei Darussalam), Reverend Datuk Danald Jute said Good Friday celebrations would be held without a church assembly, in view of the Covid-19 outbreak and the enforcement MCO. “As we are not able to go to church, prayers would be conducted online,” he said. He was commenting on the preparations of the church to celebrate the two important Christian occasions amid the Covid-19 pandemic and MCO. “Apart from the two celebrations, we will also usually hold Palm Sunday ritual a week before Good Friday but it has been postponed to another date after the two-week MCO ends,” he added. Danald’s view was shared by Borneo Evangelical Church pastor Anthony @ Langub Sikar who said their church would benefit from telecommunication technology to help Christians observe Good Friday and Easter. He said the pandemic should not be viewed solely as a challenge or obstacle but as an opportunity to be together as a family to celebrate Good Friday and Easter. — Bernama
