Climate activists glue themselves to car dealership but complain when staff turn off lights and heating

Climate activists have found themselves in a bit of a conundrum after launching a protest in Germany.

Members of Scientist Rebellion, who are a collection of academics 'calling for a climate revolution', glued themselves to the concrete floor of the Porsche pavilion in Autostadt and the Volkswagen luxury cars exhibit in Wolfsburg.

The Daily Mail says staff at the dealership let the protestors continue their demonstration throughout the day.

However, when clock-off time arrived for the employees, they switched off the lights and heating and left the activists by themselves.

One of the protestors has taken to Twitter to complain about how staff at the car manufacturer didn't do anything to help them.

Gianluca Grimalda said: "They refused our request to provide us with a bowl to urinate and defecate in a decent manner while we are glued, and have turned off the heating."

He said some of the activists have launched a hunger strike alongside their glueing demonstration and won't eat food until their demands are met.

According to the Scientist Rebellion website, the protestors have targeted Germany because the national 'economy has benefited much more than others from burning fossil fuels and exploitation of resources'.

They have also accused Germany of failing 'badly at achieving its climate and biodiversity targets'.

Grimalda complained about how they were treated after launching their protest.

"We can't order our food, we must use the one provided by Wolkswagen," he said. "Lights off. Random unannounced checks by security guards with bright torches."

After 24 hours of remaining glued to the floor and a nearly sleepless night my hand got swollen. The Wolkswagen manager had initially refused to let a doctor in but eventually accepted. 7/ pic.twitter.com/gUlbLk64jq

The protestors spent the night inside the dealership and Gianluca says the damage done to his hand as a result of glueing it to the floor has been immense.

He said his hand became swollen and a doctor had to be brought in to assess it.

"Doctors ascertained the possibility of life-threatening blood clots in my hand and recommended an immediate transfer to a hospital," he said.

"My health is of course paramount. I accepted to leave this wonderful group and was taken to hospital, continuing my hunger strike."

He explained that the group has three main demands for Volkswagen.

They want the company to 'support the introduction of speed limits on German motorways', 'condone bonds held by VW from Global South, and 'declare infeasibility of 1.5C degrees goal'.

LADbible has reached out to Volkswagen for comment.
