As the revamp and expansion works at Johor Bahru City Square move indoors, some stores in the mall have been suspending operations.

Photos and videos online show several stores shuttered, while some appear to have moved out.

The mall, located just minutes from the customs and immigration checkpoint, announced in November 2025 that it will be undergoing major renovations until the fourth quarter of 2027.

There will be new features such as a Kids Adventure Park, flexible event spaces, and by the second quarter of 2028, integrated hotel apartments above the mall.

Throughout the upgrading works, the mall will remain fully operational.

Many stores still open

Some on social media have expressed surprise to find closed stores at the mall.

In a video posted on the mall's Instagram on Apr. 29, a lot of tall scaffolding has occupied the atrium space, and the upper floors have been boarded up.

However, the mall assured shoppers that many favourite spots still remain open.

Some of those that have closed have put up notices explaining that the closure is temporary. These stores include Uniqlo and KyoChon Chicken, as seen in a TikTok video.

In a reply to a comment on their TikTok, the mall also said that the car park is currently still open from 7am to 2am.

Visitors can check out which stores are currently open on the mall's website.
