International Harry Potter fans took to the internet to share the things that they thought were magical in the films - but they were stunned when they turned out just to be British

The magic of Harry Potter lives beyond the screen and pages, with avid fans across the globe continuing to celebrate the spectacular fantasy world in their everyday lives. Fans of the series were immersed in a world of wizardry and while not the most interesting, British culture. However, some people have been confusing the two things. But if you international reader, you'd be forgiven for thinking it is all part of the Hogwarts experience.

When the first book was released in 1997, it probably wasn't expected that the book would become an international hit. Although the Wizarding World is packed with magic - including wands, an invisibility cloak, and magical creatures - you'll notice some things are purely British.

One intrigued person wondering if this was the case for most people, was shocked to see that Americans didn't quite catch on to the differences. Taking to the Harry Potter Reddit, the person asked: "Non-British readers, what's something from the books you thought was magical but turned out to be just British?" and the responses were hilarious.

Food and beverages have featured heavily in the movies - but it left people questioning whether you can find some drinks and snacks in the real world. One fan believed pumpkin juice was consumed only by students at Hogwarts. They said: "As a kid, I really thought pumpkin juice was a British thing, not a magic thing." Leading another to respond with: "Wait, pumpkin juice doesn't exist?"

Another American has admitted to thinking that the popular British dessert treacle tart is magic. They joked: "I didn't know what they were, so I imagined some kind of cake that looked like an octopus or squid."

It appears some people thought the school houses and prefect system was completely made up. In the book, fans can vividly remember when Percy Weasley, Ron's sensible brother, was made a Prefect in his fifth and sixth years, and then made Head Boy in his seventh year.

Yes, while we can all agree that Christmas at Hogwarts is purely magical, with the school halls decorated with giant trees and floating candles - it was clear to see they had some regular Christmas objects - such as crackers.

However, one viewer thought otherwise. On Reddit, they said: "I was so confused when two characters were pulling apart the crackers and there was stuff inside of them. But I was just like, 'oh this wacky magical world and their novelty-filled giant cheezits!'" But that hasn't been the only eyebrow-raising confession, one person was convinced that Harry taking everything off the Hogwarts Express train food trolley was magic.
