Coronation Street star Channique Sterling-Brown reveals ‘daunting and intense’ scenes for Dee-Dee
Coronation Street’s latest icon, Channique Sterling-Brown, has promised some big scenes ahead for her alter ego Dee-Dee Bailey.
A burst of fun and energy, Dee-Dee made her debut last year and has been an instant hit with fans and fellow cast alike.
She has established herself as one of the legal representatives in Weatherfield, the hotbed of crime.
She will get plenty of business!
Now crowned the Best Newcomer at the British Soap Awards 2023, it’s likely Corrie will thrust her into the thick of the action.
But the actress told Metro.co.uk that she already has some big scenes in the bag, as she continues to play a part in Paul Foreman’s (Peter Ash) tragic Motor Neurone Disease story.
‘It’s been intense! Peter is such a great actor; he works so hard, and he just sets the bar and you want to meet him there!’ the actress enthused.
‘It’s been a great challenge and it has sometimes been a bit draining because it is heavy, but it’s such an important storyline and I’m really grateful they trusted us with it, and I hope we’re really doing it justice.’

There’s no denying, based on the prize she picked up, that there is no danger of that.

But the modest Channique remains surprised but delighted at how fans have taken Dee-Dee to their hearts.
‘The fans have been brilliant, it’s been so positive and so nice,’ she smiled.
‘I feel like some people were a bit unsure at first, but the more solidified Dee-Dee’s got, the more they’ve taken to her, I’m very grateful for the positivity around the character!’
With her position in the legal offices, Dee-Dee will be very central to a number of stories.
Killer Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce) remains on the loose, but she won’t be the only one putting in the extra hours.
Funeral parlour employee George Shuttleworth is also going to be working hard, expects Tony Maudsley, who plays him.
He predicted to Metro.co.uk: ‘We’ll know when we get an extra body at work – extra body, who’s that? Todd and George are making good business out of it!’
At least Dee-Dee can breathe a sigh of relief – there’s no way Corrie are going to bump off their award-winning new star!
