SINGAPORE – Crew members on board the cruise ship Genting Dream rescued someone in distress in the Strait of Malacca on Sept 3 , during a three-night trip from Singapore to Phuket.

Dream Cruises, in a statement on Sept 3, said the crew sighted a small boat in distress in the Strait of Malacca in the morning.

It said: “The individual was observed signalling for assistance and the ship’s crew promptly initiated rescue procedures.”

The individual was brought on board safely and provided with food, refreshments and given a medical assessment by the ship’s medical team.

The person is currently in stable condition and receiving care, Dream Cruises added.

The cruise line is also coordinating with the relevant authorities to arrange for the individual’s safe transfer to shore.

“Ensuring safety at sea is our foremost duty,” said StarDream Cruises president Michael Goh.

“I am proud of the captain and crew’s vigilance and professionalism in carrying out this successful rescue.”

Dream Cruises is one of two brands under StarDream Cruises, alongside StarCruises. Genting Dream is its flagship and offers itineraries for Malaysia and Thailand.
