Crypto exchange BitMart weighs phased restart after shutdown
Tech in Asia·2026-08-23 11:00
BitMart, a crypto exchange, said it is considering a restructuring that could combine distributions to creditors with a phased restart of some operations, less than four weeks after it said it would shut down.
The exchange said it has appointed White & Case as restructuring counsel and expects to share a roadmap by September 9.
The update marks a shift from BitMart’s July 26 closure notice, which cited operating conditions, the market environment, and future strategy, but did not mention creditors.
At the time, BitMart halted new registrations, deposits, and trading orders, moved futures accounts to reduce-only mode, set Aug. 26 for trading to end, and said platform operations would end on Jan. 31, 2027.
BitMart previously said withdrawals would remain available, subject to additional compliance checks.
Publicly available materials reviewed for this report did not show a court-supervised bankruptcy or restructuring filing.
