Laser light shows and effects at concerts are nice to look at, not so nice if you get struck by a malfunctioning laser beam.

Just ask Cyndi Wang who experienced it at her recent concert in Shenzhen, China.

During one of her shows, the 43-year-old Taiwanese sweetheart was performing on stage when a high-powered laser light malfunctioned and a laser beam struck directly on her thigh.

Shocked by the pain, Cyndi immediately screamed and stepped away while holding her leg.

“Be careful of the lasers,” she then warned the audience. “It stings. I was hit by a laser. Who knew being hit by a laser would hurt so much? Everyone, please be careful.”

The frightening mishap, needless to say, sparked strong dissatisfaction among fans.

The concert organiser, Shenghuan Wenyu, officially issued an apology statement on May 6, admitting serious lapses in equipment safety measures.

They also released an update on Cyndi condition.

The organiser explained that due to extreme weather in Shenzhen that night, continuous heavy rain caused a failure in the stage laser signal system, resulting in a loss of control.

Staff were also unable to shut down the equipment in time, resulting in the incident which startled the performer.

"This is a serious oversight in our risk assessment, and we are deeply remorseful and filled with regret about it," they wrote in their apology.

Regarding concerns about burns, the organiser stressed that they had contacted Cyndi's team immediately.

“It has been confirmed that Ms. Cyndi Wang has not, at present, suffered any physical injuries or visible burns, and she has safely returned home by flight," they assured.

Shenghuan Wenyu also promised to maintain follow-up communication to ensure no delayed or side effects from the laser exposure.

The organisers further pledged to fully inspect stage systems in the future and improve contingency planning for extreme weather conditions, as well as assign dedicated staff to monitor equipment to prevent similar dangerous incidents from happening again.
