A woman who finished her degree said that getting a degree is overrated and she earns more that her peers who are from the same cohort by selling furniture.

She said that she had to take a loan to complete her studies and ends up working for years before paying them back.

Here is the story:

I used to believe in my parents that education was the key to success but in this day and age it is very different. But every generation is different.

Having a degree does not guarantee a high salary and skillsets are definitely more important.

I spend years paying off the loan of my degree (local) and I was drawing between $4,000 – $5,000 even after working for around 3 years.

When the pandemic started I was let go (luckily I have no more outstanding debts) and I decided to start my own business, I started to live stream and sell furniture on Facebook.

In the beginning, most of my supporters are friends and families who are looking for new furniture but it did not take long before I was given a deal from a furniture company to sell their products on a weekly basis. I was given a contract with a basic for every time I go live with their products and I get a commission for successfully selling their products.

At the same time, I was importing my own furniture from overseas and selling them on my live streams.

After doing this for a year, I managed to get the same amount of earnings as I did while I was working for someone else but I only work around 5 hours a day and I do not have to squeeze with other people in public transport.

So back to the topic, is a degree really worth it? If you’re not going to be a lawyer or doctor most of the degrees are just a piece of paper with little to no value and a complete waste of money.
