Dakota Johnson knows that the best thing to do to heal a broken heart after a breakup is to go on vacation with a bestie. 

That’s exactly what the 35-year-old actress is doing with her BFF, Kate Hudson, after they were spotted on a yacht off the coast of Ibiza, Spain, on July 1. People shared the snapshots of the women, showing off their athletic figures in string bikinis. Johnson wore a white swimsuit, and Hudson sported a yellow-and-white bathing suit — the women looked relaxed and so happy to be in each other’s company. 

The girls’ trip was the perfect getaway after Johnson split from Coldplay frontman Chris Martin in early June. Their on-again, off-again engagement seemed fraught with behind-the-scenes drama even though they did their best to keep their relationship out of the public eye. They dated for almost eight years. 

The Madame Web star made a rare comment about her then-boyfriend to Elle UK in 2021. “We’ve been together for quite a while, and we go out sometimes, but we both work so much that it’s nice to be at home and be cozy and private,” she said. “Most of the partying takes place inside my house.”

With People reporting in June that this breakup for Johnson and Martin “feels final this time,” Johnson is apparently doing OK. “Dakota’s doing well. The split wasn’t exactly a shock,” an insider told the media outlet. “She wants to live her life very intentionally — she doesn’t want to have any regrets.” 

It looks like a trip to Europe was exactly what Johnson needed, but Martin might be nursing his wounds a little bit. He seemed extra emotional while singing “Sparks” at a June 19 concert. At a June 6 concert in Las Vegas, he also gave his ex a shoutout at the end of his Coldplay performance. “Thank you so much, everybody. Be kind to yourself, be kind to each other,” he shouted. “Don’t forget to see Materialists! [Johnson’s latest movie] We love you!”

In the end, it was the couple’s life timelines thatnever aligned as the core of their problems. 

“They really tried to work through their issues, but the age gap was often a problem, and she’d expressed that she may want children in the future, whereas Chris is kind of done with that part of his life, but they discussed it,” an insider explained to The Sunof the couple’s 13-year age gap. “They made some beautiful memories as a family, and it’ll be hard for both of them to move on after such a long relationship, but they will do it.”
