In upcoming Mediacorp drama Born To Shine, 51-year-old Mediacorp actor Darren Lim plays a loving and patient 'rabbit' dad, which is basically the opposite of a tiger mum.

And a rabbit dad is pretty much what Darren is to his four children — Kristen, 18, Jairus, 16, Way, 14, and Elliot, 10 — with former Mediacorp actress Evelyn Tan, 49.

Well, most of the time.

When speaking to Lianhe Zaobao, Darren shared that he adopts different parenting styles with his kids due to their huge age difference.

For his three elder kids, he gives them freedom because he believes they're old enough to tell right from wrong. However, for Elliot, who can be more temperamental and requires more patience, Darren chooses to be a rabbit dad.

But once in a while, the eagle-parent in Darren does make an appearance. FYI: An eagle-parent is one who makes their kid learn their lessons through extreme measures.

"Under certain circumstances, I will still turn into an eagle dad. When I'm furious, even the tiger dad will come out!" he said.

So what will cause him to lose his temper?

"I will get angry when they don't listen even after being told off repeatedly, or are lazy, rude or disrespectful. But they rarely make me turn into a tiger dad, they're all quite obedient and sensible."

The actor then went on to share his worries about each kid as well as why he's proud of them.

"My daughter is the eldest and I'm starting to worry about her relationship status. But she's exceptionally sensible and is very respectful. [Jarius] Is a homebody but when I need him, he will be very willing to help and he knows how to take care of what's going on at home," he shared.

"[Way] is very playful and reckless, but he's considerably obedient. As for the youngest, he's still throwing tantrums but he's really cute and would occasionally make cards for me. At least I can enjoy having a kid at home for a few more years," added Darren.
