If your parents mistook you and a friend for a couple, most people would want to clear things up.

But for Mediacorp actress Sheryl Ang and one guy friend, they thought otherwise.

In a recent video, the 27-year-old actress recalled a time when she "accidentally" travelled to South Korea with her "boyfriend" — she gestured with air quotes — and his family.

"Back in [polytechnic], I became really good friends with a guy. You could say we were like brother and sister. But because I went to his house very often, his parents thought I was his girlfriend," she recalled.

Sheryl shared that the guy's parents never asked her directly about it and she only found out about the misunderstanding through her friend.

Though they both found the situation "very funny", Sheryl did ask whether they should come clean to his parents because it felt "very weird".

"But he said: 'Don't need, it's very troublesome. If we clarify, every time you come she'd ask: 'She isn't your girlfriend, why is she always at our house?'' Then I thought: 'Oh okay lor'," she recalled.

When her friend and his parents decided to go on a family trip to South Korea, his parents invited her along since they believed Sheryl was their son's girlfriend.

"When my friend told me [about the invite], I was like: 'Er...' But he said that the accommodation and flight tickets would be fully paid for by his family," said Sheryl.

"I asked: 'Are you sure? Are you sure [I] can [join]?' and he said: 'Can lah, just come. Let's go there and have fun.' So in the end, I decided to go."

Sheryl also ended up planning the entire itinerary for the trip.

She, however, did not reveal the rooming arrangements during the trip, nor did she share when the guy's family eventually found out that she and their son were never actually dating.
