A 27-year-old woman was arrested for her suspected involvement in loanshark harassment in Woodlands.

The police were alerted on Dec 21 to the case at a Woodlands Street 41 flat, where graffiti was found sprayed on the wall and a debtor’s note was left on the floor.

Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Woodlands Police Division established the identity of the woman and arrested her on Dec 22 within four hours of the report.

The debtor’s note was seized as case exhibit. It said: "Next time burn your neighbour house because you take loan no pay!!"

Preliminary investigations revealed that she was allegedly involved in several similar cases island-wide.

She will be charged in court on Dec 23 under the Moneylenders Act 2008.

For first-time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine between $5,000 and $50,000, with imprisonment of up to five years and caning of up to six strokes.

Women cannot be sentenced to caning.
