KUANTAN: A delivery rider pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate's Court here to six charges of cheating by using fake quick response (QR) code payment transaction displays.

Mohammad Ruzaini Ruzi, 26, is accused of using money obtained through the codes to buy various items totalling RM356.50 earlier this year.

He claimed trial after all the charges were read out before Magistrate Ellyna Othman on Friday (Sept 4).

He is accused of deceiving two individuals for amounts ranging from RM36.40 to RM67.20 that did not correspond with the actual transactions, and used the money to buy cigarettes, food and beverages.

He allegedly committed the offences at a petrol station here between Jan 19 and Feb 3.

The charges were framed under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, which provides for imprisonment of one to 10 years, as well as caning and fine, upon conviction.

The court allowed the accused bail of RM12,000 for all charges and set Sept 25 for case mention. – Bernama
