The Queen of Burlesque, Dita von Teese, began burlesque in 1992, and since then, she’s worked in that, modeling, acting, and her impressive business ventures; and she’s not stopping anytime soon. In fact, despite thinking she would have to stop in her 30s, she’s thriving even more, well into her 50s.

In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, Teese talked about how doing stripteases in her 50s has inspired so many; and how she sees that as her superpower.

She said, “From the letters I get, even from partners of my fans, it’s the permission to embrace your sensuality, permission to wear red lipstick, permission to dress differently and to feel like a vintage movie star or whoever you want to be. And now permission to perform a striptease at an advanced age in life, rather than just 25, you know?”

“I don’t want to put myself out to pasture,” she added. “Because I think it’s important for people to see me go through my different stages of life and how I evolve and change.”

So it’s clear she’s only become more inspiring, and more fabulous with age, and it’s something we seriously love to see.

In a previous interview with Love Sunday magazine via Metro, Teese talked about how she has no plans on retiring anytime soon, and she feels better than ever.

“I feel stronger and fitter than ever, so why slow down? I’m really grateful that I live in a time where audiences are receptive to older women setting an example,” she said.
