A Malaysian man who was sentenced to five months' jail in Singapore for stealing S$17,300 from a Bukit Batok durian shop where he worked has been revealed to be the younger brother of singer-songwriter Diorlying.

Tan An Sheng, 26, was working as an assistant at Top Durian Station when the offences took place between February 20 and 22 this year.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the stall's supervisor was on leave and An Sheng was asked to temporarily take over the role.

He was given the safe's passcode for the first time and was responsible for tallying and reporting each day's earnings before depositing the money into the safe.

Over the three-day period, he allegedly stole money from the company's safe on two occasions, making off with a total of S$17.3K.

He later gambled away the entire amount at Marina Bay Sands casino.

When An Sheng confessed to his employer on Feb 23, the company had initially intended to give him a second chance by allowing him to repay the money through salary deductions.

But after repaying around $2,204, An Sheng started borrowing money from customers and neighbouring stall owners to fund his gambling habit.

According to reports, around 50 people turned up demanding that he repay what he owed.

Top Durian Station later shared CCTV footage on social media that allegedly showed An Sheng switching off the stall's surveillance cameras, as well as footage of his arrest. The company also announced that he was no longer employed by them.

In October 2024, Diorlying shared a length post on Instagram in which she announced that she had cut ties with her brother for his compulsive gambling.

She revealed then that An Sheng had been addicted to gambling since his teens and had repeatedly stolen from family members, scammed relatives and even some of her fans, and borrowed heavily from loan sharks. She also alleged that his debts had once nearly resulted in their younger sister being kidnapped.

In the post, Diorlying warned the public not to lend her brother money under any circumstances and urged anyone who had been cheated by him to lodge police reports.
