With two parents, Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor,in the industry, it might’ve been a little daunting for their daughter, 23-year-old Ella Stiller, to start her acting career. But with her Off-Broadway debut currently underway, it seems she’s breaking through no matter what.

In a new interview with Teen Vogue, the rising star talked about her Off-Broadway debut in Dilaria, alongside The Summer I Turned Pretty‘s Christopher Briney, and learning a thing or two from her parents.

“I grew up with access to people,” she admitted, already acknowledging the “nepo baby” debatefrom the past few years. “My parents, my grandparents were amazing actors and writers and that’s incredible and that’s an amazing privilege, but I wanted to also have my own people and pave my own way and have my own voice be put out there.”

Knowing that, Ella pursued acting by studying at first, graduating from the renowned Juilliard School with a drama degree in 2024.

“I’ve always wanted to be an actor, but I always wanted to be a really good actor and I always wanted to be a theater actor,” she told the magazine. “I always loved real actor training and feeling like you have those tools.”

During her time at school, she was able to build her own connections, in addition to the ones her parents could’ve connected her to.

“I always want to make sure the people that I work with and who I surround myself with are people who really see me as my own person and my own artist,” she said. “People are going to judge all they want and that’s its own thing, but I just always want the people in my life to know who I am and what I want to create and be a part of.”

But while she certainly paved her own way, she admits that she’s inherited a lot from her parents.

“I think my dad and I are very similar in the way our brains work and the way we view art and writing and creativity,” she said of the Zoolander star. “I feel he and I are very much cut from the same cloth.”

“I feel I get a lot of my everyday stuff or mannerisms from my mom,” she said. “We all, collectively, get our sense of humor from each other. We have a very specific way of joking in my family, which I love so much. And sometimes I find myself making jokes and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I sounded exactly like my mom.'”

“I am surrounded by a lot of really smart people who make really smart jokes without ego,” Ella, who’s also lined up to star in And Just Like That‘s new season, added.

Right now, Ella is starring in Dilaria, a brand-new play with her as the protagonist, which is showing until August 3. She’s certainly one to watch!
