Elon Musk said any potential investment by Tesla in his AI company, xAI, should be decided by shareholders. Musk owns both Tesla and xAI.
During Tesla’s earnings call, he noted, “Shareholders are welcome to put forward any shareholder proposals that they’d like.”
Musk had previously supported the idea on X but clarified that the decision isn’t solely his.
CFO Vaibhav Taneja added that the earnings call was “not the forum to discuss this topic.”
Musk has mentioned the possibility of a vote, but no date has been set.
Tesla’s annual shareholder meeting is scheduled for November 6.
Tesla already has ties to xAI, supplying Megapack batteries and integrating xAI’s Grok chatbot into its vehicles.
This isn’t the first time Musk has brought major decisions to shareholders. In 2016, Tesla shareholders approved the acquisition of SolarCity, a solar company co-founded by Musk.
