Emma Stone felt super bad about having to keep her new look a secret. 

The two-time Oscar winner revealed that she wore wigs to hide her baldness after shaving her head to film her forthcoming movie Bulgonia, which is set to hit theaters Oct. 31.  

“I was bummed I wasn’t going out with it,” Emma told Vogue in an interview published Aug. 11. “Just straight-up bald. I think that would have been fun.”

In fact, the La La Land star—who stepped out in wigs for events like the New York Film Festival in October 2024—shared that she was a big fan of the epic hair transformation, which she underwent on camera for a scene in Bulgonia where her character is kidnapped by two conspiracy theorists (Jesse Plemmons and Aidan Delbis). 

"No better feeling in the world," the 36-year-old said of shaving her head. "The first shower when you’ve shaved your head? Oh my god, it’s amazing."

However, Emma—who shares daughter Louise Jean, 4, with husband Dave McCary—admitted ahw did cry over the change to her appearance, when she remembered how her mom Krista Stone lost all her hair years ago during treatment for breast cancer. 

“She actually did something brave,” Emma recalled thinking. “I’m just shaving my head.”

But ultimately, her mom encouraged the dramatic transformation as well. As Emma explained, "My mom was like, ‘I’m so jealous. I want to shave my head again.’"

One person who wasn't initially on board with the Superbad actress ditching her long locks? Her longtime friend Jennifer Lawrence. After all, the Hunger Games alum wasn't in support of the shaggy bangs Emma adopted to portray tennis legend Billie Jean King in 2017's Battle of the Sexes either. 

“I really didn’t want her to shave her head,” Jennifer quipped to Vogue. “I had already lived through the Billie Jean King haircut.”

In the end, however, the No Hard Feelings actress came around. 

“Honestly, she looked beautiful,” Jennifer said. “She pulled it off.”
