Two decades after the Gilmore Girls costars first channeled the beloved mother-daughter duo, the pair shared the sweetest reunion as they presented the award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series to The Studio at the 2025 Emmy Awards on Sept. 14. (Click here to see all the winners.)

"Twenty-five years ago," Lauren, 48, began, "a show called Gilmore Girls premiered and apparently took the season of fall hostage."

Alexis, 43, continued, "In spite of our autumnal dominance, Gilmore was actually a very small show," before Lauren jokingly quipped, "Meaning we have no money."

"If there was a birthday at The Drew Carey Show next door, they would send us their leftover sheet cake," she shared. "We walked in circles in Burbank, saying, 'Hey, look how Connecticut it is here today.'"

And while Alexis joked that the cast was "bullied and starving" during the show's seven-season run, Lauren added, "But the one thing we did have, we had scripts."

"Terrifyingly lengthy scripts," Alexis quipped. "So, in the spirit of having information and jokes, here are the nominees for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series."

For the 77th annual ceremony, the Handmaid's Tale actress donned a strapless silver dress. Meanwhile, Lauren opted for a black lace gown.

Alexis and Lauren's appearance comes nearly a decade after they last shared the stage in 2017 for a panel at Deadline's The Contenders Emmys event, where they discussed the WB series and its revival, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.

Although the pair hasn't shared any public outings in the past few years, it doesn't mean their bond is any weaker. For Lauren, Alexis' calmer energy provided a necessary balance in their now 25-year friendship.

"We just always really got along," she explained on the Call Her Daddy podcast in April. "It was really lucky. We did just feel immediate chemistry." 

"We are very different energies," the Parenthood alum, 58, continued. "She is a shyer, quieter person, which has been perfect. If you had two loud mess, you'd not have a good balance. I just really liked her."

Meanwhile, Alexis, who was just 19 while filming the show's pilot in 2000, was simply in awe of a then-33-year-old Lauren. 

"She had all the poise and confidence and energy of a performer," she recalled to Glamour in 2016. "That was a new thing for me. I didn't know how to be that yet, so I just remember being a little bit… dazzled."
