KUALA LUMPUR: An electrical engineer lost his life in an accident after the motorcycle he was riding was struck by a tanker truck at KM292.8 of the PLUS Highway on Saturday (Aug 30) afternoon.

Kajang police chief Asst Comm Naazron Abdul Yusof reported that the accident occurred around 12.30pm, with the tanker truck traveling from Bahau to Dengkil.

"The tanker driver, who was in the left lane, suddenly entered the emergency lane without signaling and collided with the victim who was riding in the emergency lane.

"The 39-year-old motorcyclist sustained serious injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene," he said in a statement Saturday.

Naazron mentioned that the 27-year-old lorry driver, who tested negative for drugs, was arrested and will be remanded to assist in the investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Those with information about the incident are encouraged to contact the nearest police station or the Kajang police headquarters Traffic Investigating Officer Insp Ahmad Zahrein Muhd Suod at 017-381 8422.

Earlier, a 33-second dashboard camera video from another vehicle went viral, showing the motorcycle in the emergency lane being hit by the tanker truck as it suddenly entered the lane. – Bernama
