Eogene outlines pedigree with third title

PETALING JAYA: Eogene Ewe Eon (pic) is one name to look out for in the future. The 14-year-old, who aspires to be like badminton world champion Kento Momota, secured his third international title of the year after he won the Under-15 Singapore Youth International Series boys’ singles title on Sunday. He showed his fighting spirit when he came back from a game down to overcome Indonesia’s Bodhi Gotama 16-21, 21-11, 21-17 in the final. He had not dropped a single game from the first round to the semi-final. “I’m really very happy to have won the title because it was a very tough game against Bodhi in the final. He is the second best player for Indonesia in our age category,” said Eogene. “The rubber was very close, so I had to make sure I stayed in the game mentally. He kept on fighting and moved very well on the court. To win it is very satisfying.” It was an impressive feat as he had also finished in the semi-finals of the of the boys’ doubles event with Ramno Ferdinan. They fell 21-18, 18-21, 18-21 in a heated battle against Indonesians Jonathan Gosal-Adrian Pratama in the semis. Besides Eogene, Sabah-born Arena Satu Samin also found success when she won the Under-17 girls’ singles title defeating Japan’s Sora Ishioka in the final. In the Under-17 boys’ doubles final, Wong Vin Sean-Choi Jian Sheng were winners against Indonesia’s Michael Michael-Ghoffar Prasojo.
