Members of the Chinese Women’s Association (CWA) and invited guests donned their finest Peranakan outfits for the Jolly Jolly Peranakan Lunar New Year lunch at One Farrer Hotel & Spa’s Grand Ballroom. The activity-filled afternoon began with a jewellery presentation by Yuli, featuring members of the high society circle modelling the stunning pieces. A lively lohei session and delectable Peranakan lunch then followed the opening speeches by CWA President, Joan Yim, and guest-of-honour – Member of Parliament (MP) for Tanjong Pagar Group Representation Constituency, Joan Pereira. The menu included a delectable five-course Peranakan fusion meal of Bakwan Kepiting Consomme, Nasi Kuning with Raisins & Cashew Nuts served with Nonya Chicken Rendang, Deep Fried Seabass with Bali Spicy Sauce, and Nonya Chap Chye, and a buffet of Nonya desserts. The festivities continued with the band playing familiar Peranakan tunes that got the crowd dancing. Even MP Joan Pereira joined in the fun and belted out a tune on stage. The highlight of the luncheon was the lucky draw that included top prizes of hotel and villa stays in exotic India and Bali. To end the afternoon on high note, the God of Fortune distributed red packets to guests.
