Huang Dejiang, aka Kevin, was a familiar face in the local entertainment scene a decade ago.

The former Love 972 DJ and TV host left showbiz in 2010, joining the international entertainment and resort industry in a managerial role. Based overseas, he was promoted to Vice President of Entertainment and Events within seven years, and was fully in charge of large-scale projects and global events.

Now, Kevin has returned to Singapore and is set to embark on a new career venture. He said: “I have gained plenty of experience from my past journey, and now, I have the chance to stop, reorganise my life, and start afresh in Singapore."

More celebs are entering the lucrative live stream sales scene these days, and Kevin is ready to throw his hat in the ring as well.

“I’m not unfamiliar with selling products. In the past, when I was with the radio station, we also sold health products, home appliances, as well as tour group packages. So I believe I’ll be able to get the hang of [live selling] very fast,” said Kevin.

Kevin plans to first collaborate with other sellers, where he will learn from them before moving on to establish his own sales model.

At present, he also welcomes any opportunity for collaboration and looks forward to using his speaking chops and approachability to gain the trust of viewers.

On top of the new venture, Kevin is also working on his debut book, in which he will pen down his experience as a student in the ‘80s. It will feature the happy moments and games he played as a kid, the friendships he forged in school, as well as an honest recount of the strictness and injustice of the education system during that time.

“During the process of writing this book, I often had to take pauses and put down my pen. The scenes of being punished and humiliated would suddenly appear in my mind, causing me to feel hurt all over again. Who would’ve thought that my emotions would be so affected by something that happened so many years ago,” he added.

Kevin’s book will be published in English, though he may also launch a Mandarin version in the future. He is currently in the process of finishing up the project, and is hoping to launch the book later this year.
