PETALING JAYA: A major shake-up could be on the cards at the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) with speculation mounting over a change in leadership.
Rumours in Kelana Jaya suggest that FAM president Datuk Joehari Ayub’s position is under threat, fuelling talk of a possible change at the top.
It remains unclear whether Joehari will make way or if FAM will undergo a leadership reshuffle.
The development has raised eyebrows as Joehari has only been in charge for six months, having taken over from Tan Sri Hamidin Mohd Amin in February.
If it happens, deputy president Datuk Yusoff Mahadi is expected to be appointed as acting president.
Attempts to get further comments from Yusoff were unsuccessful as he declined to elaborate.
“Next time, wait until next week,” he told the media briefly when met at Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya on Wednesday (Aug 20).
FAM also remained tight-lipped as secretary-general Datuk Noor Azman Rahman similarly refused to provide any clarification.
Joehari is the eighth FAM president and the first from Sabah, with his term supposed to run until 2029.
Yusoff, meanwhile, has held the deputy president’s post comfortably since 2017.
