I (f15) have one of those typical sports dads who pushes their kids to excel in sports. My dad was a basketball player but ended up tearing his ACL for a 2nd time and ended up deciding to give up playing basketball.

He of course wanted a son and hopefully have a shot of getting his son follow his footsteps. Well my dad had 3 girls instead of trying for a 4th child he decided to make his youngest aka me into his mini me.

From a very young age he took my basketball playing very seriously. He had me in club teams and would train with me for hours before and after school.

I never liked doing all that extra training with my dad I hated having him yell at me, I love basketball but only with my team or just shooting by myself not with my dad.

Well my school basketball season is coming up and I made the starting team, my dad was very pleased about that. My dad this morning was practicing with me and we were working on different basketball moves.

I thought I was doing good so I was smiling then all of a sudden my dad was like why are you smiling and started criticizing me and said “you need to be more serious this is why I wanted a boy instead of 3 girls”.

My dad has said some really hurtful things but he has never told me he wanted a boy instead of my sisters and I.

That really stung because I’ve always tried my hardest when it came to playing basketball and of course I’m never going to be able to live up to my dad’s standards he had for a boy because girls/ women sports are treated a lot differently then mens.
