All my friends know that I am head over heels in love with Korean fried chicken — I believe it’s the best kind of fried chicken.

Although you can find plenty of authentic Korean eateriesserving the good stuff (chimaek, anyone?) on our shores, here’s a piece of news that’s guaranteed to whip fried chicken fanatics like you and me into a frenzy.

One of Korea’s leading fried chicken chains, BHC Chicken, has finally set up its long-awaited first Singapore outlet at Marina Square! You may have spotted the chain at a pop-up booth at ZoukOut 2022, but this is a proper physical store with the option to dine in.

With over 1,000 outlets in South Korea, it’s no surprise that BHC (“Better & Happier Choice”) would eventually come to Southeast Asia, with the first Malaysia outlet opening in Kuala Lumpur in November 2022.

Can’t wait to get your fix of the chain’s signature chicken? Here’s what you can expect when it officially opens on 26 April 2023!

There may be eight different flavours of chicken on the menu, but the iconic Bburinkle Chicken (S$31.90 for whole, S$23.90 for wings, S$27.90 for boneless) is a must-order, obviously.

Think crispy and juicy fried chicken coated with a more sweet-than-savoury cheese and vegetable-flavoured seasoning.

It’s served with a yogurt-based Bburing Bburing dip that also falls on the sweeter side (but this is typical of Korean cuisine, after all).

There’s even a spicy alternative, in the form of the Hot Bburinkle (S$31.90 for whole), which I can’t wait to try!

Those who want an elevated version of soy garlic Korean fried chicken can go for the Macho King, coated in flavourful aged soy and honey-based oriental sauce.

Otherwise, spice up your life with the Red King, a spicy red hot chilli peppers and garlic number Both are priced at S$31.90 for a whole chicken, S$23.90 for wings, and S$27.90 for boneless fillets.

Out of all the flavours we tried, I absolutely adored the Hot Retro, a “hot” classic sunflower oil-fried chicken with a barely discernible tinge of heat (you’ll find this spicy only if you have a really, really low spice tolerance). Of course, you’ve also got the Retro, original fried chicken served with a Sweet & Sour Dip.

Both items are priced at S$29.90 for a whole chicken, S$21.90 for wings, and S$25.90 for boneless fillets.

We highly recommend ordering a side of Habenero dipping sauce for S$2.50 — it pairs wonderfully with the “Retro” chicken and isn’t too spicy.

Don’t miss out on the unique Chi-Pongdang (S$31.90), which takes it up a notch with the addition of shrimp and aromatic garlic flakes.

At this rate, you might have to make multiple visits in order to try every single flavour…

You can also find mains like Kimchi Fried Rice (S$9.90), Spicy and Rose Rabokki (S$12.90/S$14.90), and Spicy Fishcake Soup (S$19.90), but you’re better off saving your stomach space for the chicken and array of exciting sides.

Speaking of sides, the chewy, mochi-like cheese balls I’ve seen all over social media are definitely worth the hype!

A favourite of local Koreans, these gooey molten cheese spheres — choose between Original (S$5.90) and Bburing Cheese (S$6.90)— are both delicious and delightful. They’re also a little more sweet than savoury, but at this point, are we surprised?

I also enjoyed BHC Chicken’s take on the mozzarella stick, the Bburing Cheese Stick (S$5.90), breaded with a generous coating of garlic, onion, and cheese powder.

If you can’t get enough of the addictive bburing powder, you can also order the Bburing Corndog (S$6.90) and/or Bburing Fries (S$7.90). Bring on the bburing, we say!

Last but not least, sotteok, a combination of “so” from “sausage” and “tteok” from “garaettok” (rice cake), are essentially rice cake and sausage skewers coated in a spicy sauce (Red King, S$5.90) or Bburing (S$6.90) — a must-order for those who enjoy both meaty flavours and chewy textures.

Pair your chicken with a refreshing tipple in the form of beer, flavoured soju, makgeolli, or Korean soft drinks.
