SIBU: Mingchiang Tunhion Huay Sibu, a clan association, hopes to beat Sibu Foochow Association’s Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) entry for the most number of elderly people participating in a gathering this May.

Its chairman, Kapitan Lau Hieng Wuong, told guests at the Second Nationwide Foochow Chinese New Year Dinner here last night that they must have at least 1,400 elderly folk at their event to enter the MBR.

He said the Sibu Foochow Association’s record was for 1,160 people who are over 70 years old in a gathering in 2015.
