KUANTAN: Volunteers from CapitaLand and CapitaLand Malaysia Mall REIT Management Sdn Bhd (CMRM) recently dedicated their time to refurbish SK Balok here as part of their annual CapitaLand Volunteer Day. The volunteers also brought further smiles to 99 underprivileged pupils by presenting them with school necessities under the My Schoolbag programme. Each child received a set of school uniform, a customised schoolbag, a water bottle, a pair of school shoes and stationery. The donation was made possible with funding from CapitaLand Hope Foundation, CapitaLand’s philanthropic arm. CMRM chief executive officer Low Peck Chen said in a statement they were pleased to support underprivileged children in line with their belief that corporates could play a part in building an inclusive and caring society. “On behalf of CapitaLand, I would like to extend my appreciation to our staff for taking part in our annual CapitaLand Volunteer Day and embodying CapitaLand’s credo of ‘Building People. Building Communities.’. “Coming together to contribute positively to society has helped to build a stronger bond among CapitaLand employees,” she said. CMRM retail management general manager Fern Tan said: “Our shopping malls are an integral part in the communities they serve and we are glad to do our part in giving back to help the communities in conjunction with the third CapitaLand Volunteer Day in Malaysia. “We will continue to support these schools in refurbishing works to create a better learning environment as we believe that education will equip the children with skill sets that will sustain them through life,” she said. In SK Balok, 26 staff volunteers helped in refurbishing the canteen and donated 200 chairs for the school. The volunteers also organised a handicraft game for the children followed by a hearty lunch. Similar activities were also conducted in SK Padang Tembak in Penang, SK Abdul Samad in Kapar, Selangor and SK La Salle Jinjang 2, Kuala Lumpur over two days. CapitaLand’s retail network in Malaysia comprises seven malls. They are Gurney Plaza and Queensbay Mall in Penang, East Coast Mall in Kuantan and four in Klang Valley – Sungei Wang in Kuala Lumpur, 3 Damansara in Petaling Jaya, The Mines in Seri Kembangan and Melawati Mall in Taman Melawati.
