PETALING JAYA: Selangor fans will have another season to watch the skills of winger Alvin Fortes (pic) of Cape Verde at full display in the Super League.

The 31-year-old Fortes confirmed that he has extended his stay with the Red Giants, which is good news for the club and fans, who have warmed up to his performances last series.

“I’ve renewed for another year with Selangor. I want to ensure my goals and assists, hopefully more, will raise the club’s standard,” said Fortes, who played for 12 clubs in various parts of the globe before joining Selangor last year.

The Feyenoord Academy product played 35 games in all competitions, scoring 17 goals en route helping Selangor finish second behind Johor Darul Ta’zim.

He has played on the right and left flank, proving to be a livewire with his superb dribbling and venomous left-footed shots.

Thanks to his form last season, Fortes returned to the Cape Verde national team after seven years and played against Malaysia twice in the international window.

And he was pleased to face some of his Selangor teammates in the friendlies, where Malaysia drew the first game 1-1 but lost the closed-door friendly 0-3.

“It was nice to see and play against my teammates like Faisal (Halim), Harith (Haiqal Adam Afkar), Nooa (Laine) and Quentin (Cheng). Malaysia have a good team,” he said.

“It was good to get a call-up from my country after seven years, where my last and only cap was in 2018. It showed that my form in Selangor was noticed.”
