Fortnite Season 8 brings cubes and Carnage in time for Halloween

Multiple giant cubes and the villainous Carnage are amongst the new content for Fortnite Season 8.

Some Fortnite players have speculated for a while that the Cube, a mysterious object that hasn’t been seen since 2018, would make a return to the game at some point. Turns out they were half right: it’s back, but it’s no longer the only one.

Chapter 2 Season 8 has kicked off today and, following the events of Season 7’s finale, the island is now covered with multiple giant Cubes. And these ones roll, spreading corruption wherever they go and opening portals to another dimension called The Sideways (which sounds like the Fortnite equivalent of the Upside Down from Stranger Things).

According to Epic Games, certain points of interest will be altered by The Sideways in each match, turning them into Sideways Zones and bringing monsters onto the island.

To stand a chance against them, players are advised to arm themselves with new Sideways weapons and donate any bars they obtain to construction sites to build turrets and develop new weapons.

Players can also find Shadow Stones near the wreckage of the mothership from the last season, which can temporarily turn them into a shadow-like apparition who can dash around undetected.

In terms of new battle pass content, you can get a glimpse at some of the new skins coming to the game in the trailer below. And while he doesn’t get much focus, the season’s first crossover character is confirmed to be Carnage.

For anyone unfamiliar with him, he’s a notorious Marvel Comics villain and has primarily served as an antagonist for both Spider-Man and Venom. In the comics, the Venom symbiote reproduced an offspring which bonded to a serial killer named Cletus Kasady.

It’s clearly no coincidence that next month sees the release of the sequel to the Venom movie, Let There Be Carnage, which stars Woody Harrelson as the villain.

Funnily enough, both Carnage and Venom are now in Fortnite as skins whereas Spider-Man himself is completely absent. He wasn’t even included in Chapter 2 Season 4, which was dedicated entirely to Marvel.

More details and hints as to what this season entails can be found on the official website.

Fortnite is available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
