France pledges $1.5b for quantum, microchips

France will add 1 billion euros (US$1.16 billion) for quantum technology and 550 million euros (US$639 million) for microelectronics on May 22 as countries race to build emerging computing capacity, said President Emmanuel Macron.
The move came a day after the Trump administration outlined plans to take US$2 billion in equity stakes in nine quantum computing companies.
