SINGAPORE - The 2025 Women’s European Championship kicks off on July 2 in Switzerland, and fans will be able to get their hands on the football kits of the 16 teams in the competition.
While some nations have stuck to tried-and-trusted classic looks, others have gone a different route to include cultural elements that pay homage to their homeland.
The Straits Times looks at five cool jersey designs.
Designer Klaus Haapaniemi’s hand-drawn patterned design is incorporated into both the home and away jerseys for the Finland national football team. Using the Finnish colours of blue and white, the outfits also feature a new typeface inspired by Art Nouveau architecture. Note also the majestic owl in the away jersey – a nod to the team’s nickname, the Boreal Owls.
When the Iceland team set foot on the pitch during the European Championships, they will bring a small part of home with them. The away jersey features a lavender to green gradient in dynamic stripes which are meant to evoke the beauty and fluidity of the famed aurora borealis (Northern Lights) that inspired the design.
Another Nordic team that pays homage to the stunning natural landscapes of their country is Norway. The purple and turquoise in the away jersey bring to mind morning light over snow, while the home kit includes knitwear patterns and a font inspired by the first king of Norway.
The Portuguese women’s home jersey incorporates designs inspired by the Quinas – the five blue shields and five white dots that make up the country’s coat of arms. When playing away, the Navigators, as fans know them, stand out in a mint green jersey with futuristic red and green designs, a celebration of the modern convergence of art, technology and football.
The Swiss team, better known as the Natis, debuted a new home jersey designed specifically for the occasion. They will be playing in front of their home crowd in a red jersey with a monogram pattern inspired by traditional Swiss textiles.
