Further investigations ordered into doctor accused of molesting patients

GEORGE TOWN: Police have received instructions from the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP)'s office to further investigate a doctor who was caught four times for allegedly molesting his female patients.

Acting state police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said three of the cases were reported in the northeast district while the fourth and the most recent was in the southwest district.

He said for the three cases reported in the northeast district, the investigation papers had been submitted to the DPP's office.

"We recently received instructions from the DPP's office to further investigate the cases," he told reporters at the state police contingent headquarters here.

Alwi said for the case in the southwest district, police have started the investigation.

The 43-year-old doctor was said to be working in a government hospital in the northeast district before being transferred to a government clinic in the southwest district.

He said the most recent incident, however, occurred at a private clinic in the southwest district where he was a locum.

The doctor was arrested at the southwest district police headquarters at 8pm on Monday.

Police received a report from a woman who claimed that at 11.46am on June 29, she sought treatment at a private clinic in Bayan Baru for abdominal pain.

While in the examination room, the doctor instructed the victim to remove her shirt and proceeded to touch both of her breasts.

Not happy with what had happened, the victim lodged a police report last Friday.
