SINGAPORE – The opposition Singapore People’s Party (SPP) will contest Potong Pasir SMC, with party treasurer Williiamson Lee representing the party in the upcoming general election.
This sets the stage for a possible three-cornered fight in the single-seat constituency that is the SPP’s former stronghold.
Mr Lee will be going up against PAP’s Alex Yeo, 46, who is standing in place of incumbent MP Sitoh Yih Pin. The People’s Alliance for Reform has also said it would contest Potong Pasir, although it had not revealed its candidate yet.
Announcing Mr Lee’s candidacy on April 22, SPP’s secretary-general Steve Chia described the 46-year-old, who is self-employed, as a “steadfast member of our party for two decades”.
