When I worked for a gift shop for a major tourist attraction, a woman we’ll call “Jane” caught my attention. She was looking for a specific item that she saw another customer buying.

I show her where it was and Jane happily strolls up to my register, credit card in hand, excited about buying the item she was looking for. She hands me the card and lo, and behold, it’s not hers. I ask her if she had ID. Jane replies in the negative, also saying, “It’s my boyfriend’s card.”

Red flags sirens go off in my head; first of all, why would you NOT have your ID with you? Second of all, wouldn’t you know that some places do check for ID?

Anywho, I ask Jane if her boyfriend was with her, and she tells me that he’s in the cafe area and promptly leaves.

I still couldn’t understand what caused her to use her man’s credit card.

I shrug it off and help the next customer. A few minutes later, a tall lanky man comes up to my colleague’s till and asks about an item that his girlfriend tried to buy with his card.

We asked him why he would give his girlfriend his credit card, he said that his girlfriend is punishing him for drinking and demands to go on a shopping spree with his card.

What in the world is happening to society?
