I told my mom that I would put her in a nursing home as soon as I able to

My dad died when I (18f) was 10. Ever since my mom (58) and I have had a complicated relationship. Some days we are good, others not so much.

Today was one of the not so much days. She wanted that we go out on a walk. My clothes weren’t perfectly ironed but still good enough to go out.

When she saw me, she flipped out. Started screaming at me that I was lying to her face about my clothes, she wanted to slap me, took most of the clothes out and put them on the floor.

I told her to go alone then because I was scared of her in that moment. Again, she started screaming at me and I went to another room.

When she entered and yelled at me, I couldn’t hold it in and told her that as soon as I’m able to that I will leave her in a nursing home. She went silent and when I left the room, she was gone.

I don’t regret it one bit.

EDIT: A lot of people have asked me about dementia and menopause, I’m not really sure has my mother even been tested for dementia but it does run on her mother’s side of the family (but most of them got in their 70s/80s).

She started her menopause 6 years ago. But she has been acting this way for years, it just was easier to deal with when my father was alive.

She does have a boyfriend. They’ve been together for the last 5 years or so.

And we’re not from the US.

Minor update: when she came back, she was all quiet and didn’t even try to talk to me (to be fair, I didn’t try to talk to her), then she went to sleep to get ready for her night shift. Right now, she is at work, I’ll see what tomorrow brings.
