Golden Village (GV) Cinemas has updated its age requirement for senior citizens to be eligible for discounted movie tickets. The new age criterion is now 60 years old, up from the previous 55 years old. This change brings GV’s policy in line with other local establishments, such as FairPrice and TransitLink, which also recognize senior citizens as those aged 60 and above.

The change was implemented in 2024, and senior citizens can now enjoy discounted tickets when watching shows on weekdays before 6pm, excluding the eve of public holidays and public holidays. GV has 16 multiplexes and 122 screens in Singapore, providing ample opportunities for senior citizens to take advantage of this promotion.

The new criterion was brought to light after a photo of GV tickets was posted on the Facebook page Complaint Singapore. The photo showed one ticket priced at S$10.50 and the other at S$5, the discounted rate. The user who posted the photo expressed disappointment that the change in criterion had not been reflected on GV’s website at the time of purchase.

In response to media queries, a GV spokeswoman clarified that the new criterion had been implemented and that the chain reviews its promotions yearly. She also noted that GV reserves the right to change any terms without prior notice.

It is worth noting that other cinema chains in Singapore, such as Shaw Theatres and Cathay Cineplexes, still offer senior citizen discounts to those aged 55 and above.

Overall, while some senior citizens may be disappointed by the change in criterion, it is important to recognize that GV is aligning its policy with other local establishments. Additionally, GV continues to offer discounted tickets to senior citizens, providing them with an affordable way to enjoy movies on the big screen.
