At least 40 people had died in Albania as of Thursday morning after a 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck the country two days earlier. It was reportedly the strongest quake to hit the southern European nation in four decades. Rescue efforts continued in the port city of Durrës, located 20 miles west of the capital Tirana, the epicenter of the earthquake, as aftershocks continued to wreak havoc on the country. Rescue personnel from nearby countries joined the rescue effort.
