Gig Workers Bill tabled for first reading in Dewan Rakyat

KUALA LUMPUR: The Gig Workers Bill, which seeks to protect the rights and welfare of 1.2 million gig workers, was tabled for first reading in the Dewan Rakyat today.
Human Resources Minister Steven Sim said the second reading was scheduled for this parliamentary session, which concludes on Aug 28.
The bill, crafted after 37 engagement sessions with more than 3,800 stakeholders across government agencies, state authorities, platform operators, employers, unions and gig worker associations, aims to bring clarity to a sector that has for years existed in a legal vacuum.
