Good Morning America Moving to New Studio After 25 Years

E! News·2025-06-11 06:01

It’s time to say Good Morning America from lower Manhattan.

After 25 years, the Good Morning America cast and crew including news anchors Robin Roberts, 64, Michael Strahan, 53, George Stephanopoulos, 64, are closing the chapter on their Times Square studio and taking the show downtown to Hudson Square.

The June 9th broadcast announced that this week is “the ultimate countdown as we say goodbye to our beloved home of 25 years.”

For many of the show’s staff and anchors, entering the ABC studios in Times Square was a pivotal moment in their careers.

“I remember thinking, I’m a little girl from Mississippi and I’m working at Times Square,” Robin, who joined as a co-anchor in 2005, reflected in one of a series of Instagram posts shared to the show’s account. “It’s just so majestic.”

Michael, too, reflected on his first time in the studio, which enjoys the backdrop of Times Square’s billboards and energy.

“The bright lights, the personality, the energy, how intimidated I was when I walked through the door,” the former NFL star reminisced. “A lot of thoughts were going through my mind.”

After all, no one truly forgets their first moments in the epicenter of New York City—and chief meteorologist Ginger Zee is no exception. “My first time in Times Square, coming to this studio, was magical,” the 44-year-old, who has been part of the GMA community for 14 years, shared. “I just remember looking up and thinking ‘This cannot be my life.’”

And for George, who has been co-anchor on the show since 2009, the move has him thinking back on his earliest memories on GMA—though he admitted his very first day at the desk eludes him.

“It was so long ago that I can’t even imagine what it must have been,” he joked in his respective Instagram post, before he was reminded the big moment in question occurred on Dec. 14, 2009. “I even got a gift that morning—one of my first interviews was with David Axelrod, who was working in the White House at the time with President [Barack] Obama—they sent me a big alarm clock for my first day.”

But while the anchors are feeling bittersweet about their move, the Monday episode of their final week in the NYC landmark kicked off with a full circle moment: Tennis star Coco Gauff visited the studio on June 9 following her first Roland Garros win, a nod to Serena Williams’ GMA interview after her first US Open win in 1999—which took place the same week the morning show moved into the Times Square space.

As Robin noted, “This is the perfect bookend.”
