Governance failings thwart Pakistan’s economic recovery

The successes and failures of government responses to COVID-19 are the best measure of their resilience. On 3 December, Pakistan recorded over 403,000 cases of COVID-19 and suffered 8166 deaths out of its population of 215 million. Pakistan had earlier enjoyed success in containing the spread of the virus, in sharp contrast to the United States, many European countries, and neighbouring India.
