Grace Kelly‘s granddaughter Camille Gottlieb turned a Monaco gala night for the Red Cross into an iconic fashion moment.

The 27-year-old royal, who is the daughter of Princess Stéphanie of Monaco and Jean Raymond Gottlieb, honored her late grandmother’s film career with a nod to one of her most famous Alfred Hitchcock films, Rear Window.

The 1954 thriller with Kelly and James Stewart follows a news photographer confined to a wheelchair after an accident. To pass the time, he watches his New York City neighbors through binoculars, where he believes he witnesses a murder.

Legendary costume designer Edith Head created Kelly’s wardrobe for the film, and Gottlieb decided to take a modern spin on her grandmother’s gown. Designer Elisabetta Franchi updated the design with a deeper neckline, additional sparkling appliqués around the waistline, and a thigh-high slit.

Gottlieb shared snapshots from her glamorous evening in the design, writing in the caption, “Throwback to the @croixrougemc Gala evening ❤️

Thanks to @elisabettafranchi, I was able to pay tribute to my grandmother with this beautiful dress 😍.”

Gala magazine also did a “get ready with me” video of Gottlieb ahead of the gala and included images of Kelly in her Hollywood look. Theywrotein the Instagram caption, “On the occasion, Stephanie’s daughter of Monaco wears a custom-made Elisabetta Franchi signature dress, inspired by an iconic dress worn by her grandmother, Grace Kelly.”

Head shared her thoughts on creating the wardrobe for Rear Window in her memoir, Edith Head’s Hollywood.

“Hitchcock told me it was important that Grace’s clothes help to establish some of the conflict in the story,” she wrote, per Screen Chic. “She was to be the typical sophisticated society-girl magazine editor who falls in love with a scruffy photographer, Jimmy Stewart. He’s insecure and thinks that she thinks he isn’t good enough for her. Hitch wanted her to look like a piece of Dresden china, something slightly untouchable.”

“The black-and-white dress I used in the first love scene had a simple neckline, which framed her face in close-ups,” Head continued. “Then, as the camera pulled back, the beaded chiffon skirt immediately told the audience she was a rich girl.”

Gottlieb knew it was the perfect fashion moment on such a special gala night, and it was a sweet nod to her family’s Hollywood heritage.
