HK Bus Passengers Told Not To Cut Their Nails On Board

A Xiaohongshu user was recently on board a bus in Hong Kong when they spotted this PSA on the electronic display: "Please refrain from cutting your nails." The text, in Mandarin, also flashes in English, and warns those on board against littering as well.

In their caption, the OP quipped: "This is so funny. I wonder what's the story behind the implementation of this rule on the city bus. However, I do agree with banning the cutting of nails in all public spaces."

Earlier this year, a clip of a male passenger clipping his toenails and leaving his trimmings behind in a bus in Hong Kong went viral. It sparked widespread discussion, with many expressing their disgust at his unhygienic behaviour.

Many called for signs to warn passengers against cutting their nails on public transport and it looks like the feedback has been heard.

Netizens have since left their own experiences with errant nail clippers on public transport.  One said they saw a man clipping his toenails while seated right opposite a girl who was eating a cake. The commenter saw a toenail "fly" onto the oblivious girl's cake and... yes, she went on to eat it.

Most netizens agreed the sign is necessary, with many saying they don't understand why some people have to clip their nails in public. "Ridiculous behaviour calls for ridiculous warnings," wrote one netizen.

While cutting one's toenails on a Hong Kong bus is not considered illegal, the inconsiderate individual might be asked to alight, and authorities will be alerted should they refuse to cooperate.

Some people have also called for fines to be implemented to put a stop to such disgusting acts.

Very gross behaviour, please don't partake.
