Friends and family gathered at Hung Hom Public Funeral Parlour yesterday (Jul 15) to say their final goodbyes to Hong Kong veteran actress Hung Suet Nei aka Suet Nay and her husband, renowned martial arts choreographer Tang Chia.
Tang Chia, 88, passed away on May 23 after falling from their home in an apparent suicide. Suet Nay, 78, succumbed to pancreatic cancer 10 days later.
The pair, married for 56 years, were considered one of Hong Kong showbiz’s most loving couples.
The funeral hall was decorated in a simple and solemn manner, with a large photo of the couple and a banner reading “Forever in Our Hearts” at the centre. There were also wreaths from industry peers and juniors.
After the funeral ceremony concluded at 11am, staff wheeled the coffins out of the hall.
Their son, holding portraits of both parents, boarded the hearse to send them on their final journey.
Among the stars present were Ti Lung and wife Tao Man Ming, David Chiang and wife Maggie Li, and Fung Bo Bo.
Actor Chin Ka Lok, who is the president of the Hong Kong Stuntman Association and a mentee of Tang Chia, told reporters that couple were very low-profile and it was Tang Chia’s wish for them to hold their funeral together.
It is understood that they would be cremated together.
When asked if Suet Nay, who had been hospitalised for long-term treatment, knew about her husband’s passing before her death, Ka Lok said he did not ask.
He shared that he had considered visiting her but refrained, respecting her desire for privacy.
Ka Lok added that Tang Chia’s standing in the stunt community inspired many stuntmen to volunteer at the funeral.
He noted the family faced no financial difficulties, so the association only offered support in a minor capacity.
