PETALING JAYA: Former Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president Tan Sri Hamidin Mohd Amin (pic) has been officially appointed as the association’s honorary president.

He is the second person after the late Sultan Ahmad Shah, who served as FAM president for 30 years (1984–2014), honoured with the title.

The decision was taken during FAM’s first extraordinary congress on Monday (June 30).

According to Article 22 of the FAM statutes, the congress can confer the title of honorary president or honorary member to individuals who have made significant contributions to football.

The person must have previously held the post of FAM president to be considered for the title.

The honorary president does not hold voting rights but is allowed to attend congress and participate in discussions in an advisory role within the organisation.
